Termination

Terminations, also referred to as loads, are calibrated to correspond with a characteristic impedance measuring precisely 50 ohms. The use of matched loads is intended to effectively absorb all incoming power with minimal reflection, which results in the adequate termination of the line or port at its characteristic impedance. The utilization of terminations is prevalent in various measurement systems. In order to ensure the precision of measurements in multi-port microwave devices, the characteristic impedance of each port that is not integral to the measurement must be appropriately terminated. Terminations can be observed in electronic components such as directional couplers and isolators. In transmitter applications, high power variants are utilized as substitutes for actual loads.
